Uptown Pediatrics, located in Columbus, GA, opened its doors in October 2010 by Dr. Feoderis “Iris” Basilio. She is joined by a full time physician assistant, Annaliese Chai, PA-C, and a part time Nurse Practitioner, Aimee Vael, FNP, DNP.
Uptown Pediatrics provides comprehensive and quality healthcare to infants, children, and adolescents from birth through high school.
We promote preventative medicine and well child care as the foundation of Pediatric treatment. Well visits are recommended at the following ages: Newborn, 2-4 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, and annually each year from 3 to 18 years of age. While these visits may coincide with immunizations, they also provide us an opportunity to assess your child’s growth, perform behavioral and developmental assessments, discuss anticipatory guidance e.g. car seat safety, injury prevention, etc. as recommended by Bright Futures and The American Academy of Pediatrics. Other screenings may include tuberculosis and lead exposure risk, a vision exam, a hearing exam, hemoglobin, urinalysis, and lead testing. We also provide sports physicals and pre-op exams as needed.
Uptown Pediatrics offers a prenatal visit to address concerns about newborn and nursery care. We encourage expectant parents to ask questions about our practice to help with their important decision on whom to choose as their Pediatrician.
Despite immunizations and preventative medicine, children do and will get sick. Our office staff is available to answer questions and provide medical advice for acute minor illness. Uptown Pediatrics makes every effort to provide same-day sick appointments. We provide testing for Strep and seasonal Influenza and urinalyses.
Fever often accompanies illness or infection. Although fever can be scary to parents, it is actually a good sign that your child’s immune system is healthy and is trying to fight off infection. It is our job to examine your child to determine the source of fever. Not all infections require antibiotics, and we discourage their use for viral infections.
Uptown Pediatrics offers after hours appointments for preventative visits and for on-going medical care for chronic diseases such as asthma, ADD/ADHD, and obesity. These appointments offer more time to address these conditions and to provide quality healthcare. Recommended follow ups for children with asthma are every 3-6 months depending on the severity of illness. Follow-ups for children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD are recommended within 30 days of the initiation of medications and every 3-6 months. We often require nurse visits when picking up refills to monitor for side effects, etc.
Nurse visits are also available for weight checks, blood pressure monitoring, hemoglobin rechecks, Strep tests, seasonal Influenza tests, immunization administration, and antibiotic injections.
